Here in my city pioneers are mostly retired oldies, young ones living with their Jw parents still, or window washers. There are other types of course, and it amazes me what these other types will justify to pioneer such as disability pension, dodgy work practices and taking advantage of the brothers n sisters. And then have their families up on the platform at assemblies to show how great they are.

People who pioneer on government assistance
by ilikecheese ini had a chat with my boyfriend about this, and he said that he knows quite a few pioneers who are capable of working but prefer to pioneer with government assistance.
his thought was, "well, it's kind of bad, but at least they're doing something useful/good with their time.
" i know from reading this board that it's a pretty widespread thing.

The Experts- Jehovahs Witnesses
by jean-luc picard ini was thinking this weekend of a brother i first met when i was a teenager.. not yet an elder, this brother was very outspoken, and was viewed a kind of hero to the r&f.. an inexperienced teen, i also believed ( influenced by others) that this guy was a godsend.. looking back, with the eyes of a more mature person, i now consider him an arrogant self opinionated bully.. he later became an elder and i might add that he also had an imposing physical appearance .
but he had no education.
no schooling.

Yes. She knew from experience the importance of education so she like many others could choose life. I guess it's not til ppl are starving they realize what good education is worth.

Your worst convention experience.

I was a newbie cultist too, which provided its own challenges come convention time. Thanfully my friends ignored the 'save seats only for people in your family or who are traveling with u' because every time I took the bus I'd have no one to sit with! So my friends would save me a seat.
As a newbie I did quite well because I was a gregarious teenager. It was only when I moved to a remote place in my mid 20s I suddenly found myself, a single sister with no connections or Jw family, on the outer. Then in my later 20s I moved back to my old cong in the more populous part of the state and had friends again, but I got overlooked for social things as a new young ones group had emerged and my old peer group had married or moved. A couple of young newbies befriended me but as they were males, we couldnt get too close...

That's a touching story. I always wondered what growing up a Jw would've been like, and thanks to this site I now have an idea. For me conventions were mostly a chance to socialise, but kids? Mega boredom? Pageantry for the teen girls with their latest outfits, but for every other kid? Sounds like torture.

I'm not DF or DA, but I still get shunned...
by darthfader ini met a couple i used to know many years ago (probably 20) in a local "big box" store.
i knew they looked familiar and since they were dressed up and it was saturday "mid day" i put two and two and two and came up with 666... they were jw's.
i didn't say anything to them just minded my business picking up supplies when the woman came over to me and started asking me if she new me from work or some company.

Hey Zeb, she shunned me because she could 'no longer tolerate' my liberal views because I said something about embracing Christian diversity on one post, and I'd posted wt quotes from old times and modern on some more controversial topics. It's funny how JWs will get all apostate-shy when you cut and paste unsavory quotes from the wt library! Mind you, they were out of context, but then again, reading the whole article wouldn't make it look less damning.
Anything that makes em uncomfortable causes them to clam up and shun. I remember my mother telling me 'apostate' things she'd heard when I'd only been in a few years and the cognitive dissonance they caused made me feel physically sick. Keep in mind also that this cult tells its members that if someone leaves then they must be deeply flawed, apostate or dangerous to them. It's called phobia indoctrination. In a way they are victims too.

When Vulnerable...
by LouBelle inwhen you are feeling down, vulnerable and your emotions a mess, many people will reach out to you.
in my experience most mean what they say and are genuine in their desire to see you feel/get better (personaly experience from here xx).. then you get those that prey on the vulnerable.
they see an opportunity to perhaps get you entangled emotionally and being in that delicate state you may allow it to happen....with out necessarily realising what is going on.. always tread carefully when you are in this state of mind.

So true. There are those who will try to prey on you when you're weak, but hopefully they're few and far between.

I wonder what the others in your cong thought of them? I bet they looked at them and felt that their hard work to support themselves and or their families was being slapped in the face by these bludgers. That's how I would have felt when I was in. I bet the pioneers who did the right thing and worked really resented them.

Go to the infirm area and sleep on the floor. I had cfs so that's what I did in a nice carpeted room full of old people.

Soliciting for money on this site is NOT acceptable
by Simon inpming other members of this site asking for money is unacceptable and will not be tollerated under any circumstances, especially if it seems like you are targeting someone who seems to be especially kind and maybe a little old.
that is low.. if you do this, you will be classified as a scammer and your account deleted.
i don't care what the reasons given are.. if someone offers money then fine although i'd warn anyone against falling for sob-stories they read on the internet.

by ssn587 inmy wife passed away 2 years ago we had been married over 30 years, i have since remarried and my new wife is younger than 3 of my children from my first marriage.
i just wondering if there are any more like me out there.
i stay in excellent shape for my age, work out almost daily eat good and have absolutely no medical problems or at least none i can do anything about, bad knees, but my vitals are excellent, and i am known as the teenage because of them when i have my yearly medical checkup.. so was wondering if there are others out there like me, and what some may think about it, just for the record i am extremely happy once again, and we have a 18 month boy who delights me, have a whole new outlook on fatherhood and child raising.

As long as you are both happy, no one can or should judge.
